If you want to address stubborn areas of body fat or achieve a more toned or sculpted physique, you might assume diet and exercise are the only ways to reach your goals. These approaches are effective, but they take time and effort, which can be challenging to maintain.
Noninvasive body contouring treatments offer a safe and effective alternative.
At Beverly Hills Medical Institute, Shaghayegh “Sherri” Tavassoli, DO, uses two types of body contouring treatments: CoolSculpting® and CoolTone®.
Here, we explain how each procedure works, highlight their differences, and answer whether they can be used together.
Before you can determine which body contouring treatment is right for you, you need to understand their differences.
CoolSculpting® is a noninvasive body contouring treatment designed to reduce the appearance of stubborn body fat. It uses controlled cooling technology (cryolipolysis) to freeze and eliminate fat cells that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
CoolSculpting typically takes 30-60 minutes per session and can be used on specific areas of your body, including your:
After treatment, your body naturally processes and eliminates the treated fat cells over time. Results are gradual, but many people report noticeable improvements, such as a slimmer physique and better-fitting clothes.
CoolTone® is a noninvasive body contouring treatment designed to strengthen and tone muscles through powerful contractions.
Dr. Tavassoli often uses it to improve muscle tone in the:
Like CoolSculpting, CoolTone typically takes 30-60 minutes per session. After a series of treatments, many people report increased muscle firmness and definition.
CoolSculpting and CoolTone are both outpatient procedures, but they involve slightly different approaches. Here’s what to expect during your session:
During CoolSculpting, you sit or lie down in a comfortable, reclining chair.
Once you’re in position, we apply a gel pad to your skin and place applicators on the targeted areas, such as your love handles. The applicators look similar to the nozzles of a vacuum cleaner and gently draw the tissue in while delivering controlled cooling to each treatment site.
We may treat one area or several areas, depending on your goals. During treatment, it’s normal to feel a pulling or tugging sensation, but it shouldn’t be painful.
After each treatment cycle, we may massage the treated area. This helps your body process the treated fat cells, leading to gradual, noticeable results.
Like CoolSculpting, we offer CoolTone in-office.
During treatment, you lie on a comfortable table, and we apply applicators to the targeted muscle areas, such as your abdominal muscles.
Once the applicators are in place, we turn the device on, and magnetic stimulation causes your muscles to contract rapidly. The intensity is easily adjustable, and many of our patients compare the sensation to a tough workout.
During treatment, you can take a nap, read a book, or listen to music. Once the time is up, we turn the machine off and schedule your next session.
The number of CoolSculpting or CoolTone treatments you need varies from person to person and will depend on your specific physiology and goals.
We can use CoolSculpting and CoolTone individually, but some people choose to combine them for enhanced results.
Dr. Tavassoli typically recommends CoolSculpting first because it can help eliminate stubborn fat that sits above the muscle tissue. Once CoolSculpting is complete, CoolTone can help you achieve greater definition.
Body contouring offers a safe and noninvasive way to achieve your aesthetic goals.
